Alma Teer is a multidisciplinary artist working across materials, objects, text, installation, and research. Her practice departs from domestic rituals such as washing, mending, sewing, weaving, feeding, carrying, and adorning. These intimate gestures, traditionally carried out and passed on by women, often go unnoticed, yet carry knowledge about care, labor, femininity, and cultural memory. Through a contemporary feminist lens, Teer looks at how these practices shape bodies, identities, and relationships, while remaining largely absent or undervalued within historical narratives.
Archival research and material experimentation form the basis of her practice. Teer approaches the archive as a space for speculation, weaving overlooked histories together with personal memories. She is drawn to the afterlife of rituals: what remains when their original context has disappeared, but their gestures continue through materials, movements, and collective memory. Working primarily with old Dutch traditions, textiles, and domestic objects, she treats materials as mutable carriers of knowledge, shaped by touch, use, wear, and time. With a background in contemporary jewellery, she explores the space where body and object meet, and where personal experience becomes intertwined with cultural tradition.
